About the Artist
Janet Dupuis is a Central Massachusetts native who paints in various places throughout New England. She graduated from Framingham State University with a BA in Studio Art and from Fitchburg State University with a M.Ed in Art Education. In addition, Dupuis has studied with Elizabeth O’Reilly, Howardena Pindell, Carrie Moyer, Dean Nimmer, Bernd Hussman, Timothy Hawkesworth, and Nancy McCarthy who have had a great influence on her work.
She continues to seek other artists and colorists whose work she responds to as well. Her interest in art and education led to a career as an art educator, teaching both children and adults in museums and in both public and private schools and colleges.
Artist Statement
As a contemporary artist, I am interested in interpreting subject and emotion in an abstract, intuitive way. My paintings express my joy and connection to nature. They are a reflection of my feelings and energy derived from my environment. I am inspired by color, texture, and bold paint application to express an energetic tension and a meaningful emotional response.
Colors, shapes, and movement in nature have inspired my paintings throughout my artistic practice. I work intuitively, letting the surface of my work dictate what it needs to become complete. When responding to places both real and imagined, I enjoy exploring the push and pull of representation and abstraction by using my process of experimentation. I apply paint by any and all means and will just as often wipe, sand or scrape the surface as paint with a brush.
Through my work, I hope to evoke a sense of wonder and awe. I invite the viewer to consider the beauty and complexity of the world around us and the element of discovery that it inspires.
